- The Association was formally formed in October 2004.
- It changed its name in 2024 from Wear Valley Woodturners to Durham Woodturners as we altered our meeting venue to Stanley Co Durham and the new name better reflects the area we cover.
- We aim to provide a forum to encourage communication and an exchange of views amongst turners by the provision of woodturning demonstrations by members, invited guests and professional turners.
- We meet on the third Monday of the month at 6pm for 6.30 start.
- Full Member annual membership £30 year (£15 for people joining between April to
September)
- Junior membership (Under 18 years old) £20 per year £5 entrance fee when
demonstrator
- Members door charge £10 on demonstrator nights
- Guest door charge £10 on demonstration nights
- Spouse attending with member on demonstration nights £10
- Members door charge of £5 on Hands on nights
- We have our own lathe (Wivamac Vario 850), chuck, tools and presentation equipment.
- Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided for which there is currently no charge.
- Also available for membership hire are a Roly Munro Hollowing Tool, Bosch Electric Wood Carver, hand thread chasers, and a Sorby Spiralling/Texturing tool.
- The affairs of the Association are managed by an elected committee.
- Durham Woodturners is an associate member of the AWGB (Association of Woodturners of Great Britain) who provide 3rd party insurance.
